The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program offers scholarships to students who have demonstrated ability to excel in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields. Students are also provided opportunities to continue their research in DoD roles following graduation as part of the program's goal to produce the next generation of science and technology leaders.

"Mariella is an exceptional student and very deserving of this honor," said Chell Roberts, Dean of the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering. "I know she is going to do great things to help our nation stay on the cutting edge of technology."
