Olivia Gonzalez of Scotts Valley graduated from the University of San Diego on May 28.

Gonzalez earned a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies.

Gonzalez graduated summa cum laude.

Gonzalez participated in the university's Honors Program designed to provide smart, passionate and engaged students with challenges and opportunities to allow them to achieve their intellectual goals. The program emphasizes teaching excellence, small seminar-style classes, and a core curriculum of innovative courses.

Gonzalez participated in the McNair Scholars program that prepares high achieving first-generation college students and students from underrepresented groups for master's and PhD programs. Gonzalez will begin a PhD program in Communication at the University of Southern California.
