Maria Gabriella Russo of El Cajon Selected for McNairs Scholars Program at the University of San Diego

Maria Gabriella Russo of El Cajon has been accepted for the McNair Scholars Program at the University of San Diego. Funded through the U.S. Department of Education, the McNair Scholars Program identifies high-achieving University of San Diego undergraduate first-generation and underrepresented students and prepares them for master's degree and PhD programs.

Russo is majoring in Psychology and plans to graduate in May 2016.

With the goal of creating a diverse faculty in educational institutions across the country, the McNair Scholars Program prepares undergraduate students for a PhD track, providing research and scholarly experiences, a summer internship, and opportunities for students to present at national conferences, in order to prepare them for graduate-level work.
