James Bennett of Santee Selected for Mortar Board at University of San Diego

James Bennett, a student at the University of San Diego, was selected for Mortar Board, a national honor society recognizing students for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service.

Bennett of Santee, is a double major in English and Spanish with a minor in religious studies. Bennett expects to graduate in 2014.

Bennett is a member of the Honors Program and has engaged in philanthropic events such as mission trips to the La Gloria Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. He hopes to join the Peace Corps after graduation to serve and grow in an grow in an international setting.

Mortar Board, founded in 1918, has more than 200 chapters across the country and chartered on the USD campus in the fall of 2000. After students are selected, they continue to serve the University and community through special projects.
